The World is Crazy Enough Without Scratch-N-Sniff Pants (ContributorNetwork)

COMMENTARY | It goes to show you that some people aren't worried about such weighty issues as the global economy or tensions in the Middle East. They're not even worried, it would appear, about climate change or starving children in countries far, far away. According to The Sideshow, the company Naked and Famous is making a $150 pair of men's jeans that can stand months without washing and smells, when scratched, like raspberry candy.

A spokesman for the company believes hardcore denim lovers don't wash their jeans for months so they can achieve an "individual look," The Sideshow author, Eric Pfeiffer, blogs, adding the company plans to add other scents, including apple, banana, eucalyptus, grapefruit and mint.

I am not convinced there are people walking around scratching and sniffing other people's clothes, wishing that others -- including strangers -- would scratch and sniff his own clothes. Or that an "individual look" is a valid reason for one not washing his clothes for months. Further, I'm not sure how many guys are going to line up to drop $150 on a pair of jeans that makes him smell like a fruit. Especially given the way the economy is these days.

Perhaps I'm merely failing to see the issue from a guy's perspective. I mean, after all, I don't want anything to do with scratch-n-sniff clothes. The world is crazy enough without such things. I can't imagine not washing my clothes for months. I can't imagine the lawsuits that will come when a certain number of individuals get rashes or, worse, anaphylaxis from the chemical that gives the denim its scent. It could happen, you know. And in this country, it probably will.
