Edward P. Flanagan, 70, Georgetown, Texas

Edward Paul Flanagan, age 70, of Georgetown, Texas was welcomed home into the arms of our Heavenly Father on December 28, 2011. He was born on December 5, 1941 in Springfield, Massachusetts to Timothy and Annie Ruth (King) Flanagan.

Edward was raised in Agawam, Massachusetts, and that is where he decided to join the Army National Guard. He also actively pursued business school to establish his career in automotive sales. Edward married Judith Jean Shaker on February 4, 1965, and the two were married for 42 years. His family relocated to Austin, Texas, in August of 1978, where he was self-employed in donut sales. Edward worked until 1990 when he retired due to disability. He loved all animals, but especially his two beloved cats, Lil Lady and Oscar. Edward began to study the bible with his daughter, Debbie, in 1999. After months of physical ailments, including the amputation of both of his legs, he accepted Jesus Christ into his heart, and as his Savior. On a cold day in November of 2000, at the age of 59, Edward was carried into his baptistery at the Georgetown Church of Christ, and became a Christian. He valiantly fought to the end of his earthly life to be strong for his family. He was a genuine and giving person to all, and no one was a stranger. He was always willing to give his time, his service and his money to those in need. Edward will be remembered as a caring, loving, and empathetic father.

Edward is survived by his former wife, Judith Shaker of Georgetown, Texas; daughter Debbie Shannon of Georgetown, Texas; grandson Trevor Paul Shannon of Florence, Texas; granddaughter Hope Faye Shannon of Georgetown, Texas; brother Roger and wife Debbie Kraft of Hampton, Connecticut; and his special friend Dolores Barr of Georgetown, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Tommy Flanagan; and his sister Margaret Lawless.

Serving as Pallbearers are Roger Smith, Trevor Paul Shannon, Brandon Van Loozen, Zane Witcher, Bert Witcher and Scott White.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, in Georgetown.

Memorials may be made in Edward's name to the American Diabetes Association, 9430 Research Blvd. Bldg 2, Ste. 150 Austin, Texas 78759, or the American Heart Association, 10900-B Stonelake Blvd. Ste. 320 Austin, Texas 78759.
